Seminar on Hot Weather Concreting in Civil Engineering Department

Civil Engineering Department of Mahavir Swami College of Engineering & Technology has organized Seminar on “Hot Weather Concreting” on 1st August 2017. The lecture was attended by 126 students and all the faculty members of Civil Engineering. The Speaker - Er. Mitul Patel is a graduate Civil Engineer from V.V. Nagar. He is currently working with Ambuja Cements Ltd as Sr. Manager (Technical Services) & Zonal In-charge Mid & South Gujarat. He is having an experience of 25 years. He has enriched knowledge regarding Concreting techniques and recent trends in it. It is important that hot weather be taken into account when planning concrete because of the potential effects on fresh and recently placed concrete. High temperatures alone cause increased water demand, which in turn will raise the water-cement ratio and yield lower potential strength. Higher temperatures tend to accelerate slump loss and have a major effect on the setting time of concrete; concrete placed under high temperatures will set quicker and can therefore require more rapid finishing. Apart from high temperatures other factors like high wind velocity and low relative humidity and various combinations of these factors affects concrete differently, ultimate results of which may be drying shrinkage, thermal cracking etc. It was indeed helpful lecture to everyone.
